Moose's Teeth

LOL unfortunately fellow A-Towners, there is no pizza in this post.

The Moose had her 1st ever dental appt yesterday - it went a lot better than Iexpected!  She normally takes a good 20 minutes to get her bearings in new surroundings, but there was a boy in the waiting area, playing with toys, and she was FASCINATED by him.  He was jumping around with this wood & string bucky ball looking contraption and she wanted down out of dad's lap within like 5 minutes!  She crawled right over to the boy and was all "what's up?" and climbed the side of the little table to stand up & check out what his toys.  The boy was so sweet, trying to engage her, and I actually ended up sort of playing with him.  He was telling me about his little wooden race car and his progession in a make believe race.  Then it was our turn to see Dr. S.

The tech just gushed over the Moose and tried to give her a toy, which the Moose looked at momentarily before letting me know she above such tricks.  The Moose was in Yobo's lap, facing him, then laid back so her head was in Dr. S's lap.  She only cried while Dr. S was poking around in her mouth; as soon as there were no more fingers in her mouth, she stopped crying and just acted like it'd never happened.  The COOLEST part though was afterwards, Dr. S was saying good-bye & the Moose was pointing at her.  Dr. S says "you want to come see me?" and reached out to pick her up and the Moose let her!  They even walked around for a minute, Dr. S pointing things out and telling her what was what.  It was AMAZING!  Yay!  I don't know what happened, but it was wonderful  :)  Normally, the Moose cries when strangers try to hold her.

AND!  We (Yobo & I) felt like much better parents after leaving the dentist.  It is, apparently, not the norm to not let your almost 11 month old baby drink soda or juice, eat gummy bears, or not brush their teeth.  The tech was flabbergasted at the fact the we brush her teeth twice daily and that she's never had juice, much less soda, or gummy bears.  I told her I wasn't trying to raise a diabetic by choice!  When Dr. S came in, she, too, was amazed at this & informed us that most kids she sees do AT LEAST one of them.  Wow.  And people wonder why we have an obesity problem.  Someone I know told me they fed their 1 year old donuts & let them eat french toast at IHOP - ew!

If this makes me a snob, then I am proud to be one.  People also think it's weird that we don't let the Moose watch TV.  WHY?!?!?!?  WHY IS THIS WEIRD?  My mom's husband doesn't come home when we're visiting because he can't watch his beloved television until after we leave.  Sucker.  Personally, I like my kid - she's pretty effin' awesome.  If preferring to actually interact with my child and help her get a grasp on the natural world before inundating her with commercials designed to make fat cats even fatter is truly weird, then you're gosh darn right I am as weird as they come.

ENGAGE YOUR CHILDREN!
